“Catholic Cemeteries are an expression of Faith and serve as an extension of our Catholic Church community.
When we are baptized, we are brought to a sacred place, a Catholic Church, and baptized into the mystery of Christ’s death and resurrection – thus giving us the promise of eternal life. When a loved one dies, we take them to another sacred place, a Catholic cemetery, while they await the resurrection of the dead and that promise of eternal life. Burial or inurnment in a Catholic cemetery is a statement of continued belief in that everlasting life promised by Jesus when he said, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die…” (Jn. 11:25)
For over a century Sacred Heart of Jesus Cemetery and St. John the Baptist Cemetery have ministered to Central City families seeking consolation and peace at the death of a loved one. Guided by our faith, we strive to uphold the sacredness of the human body and the dignity of all life as we witness the faith in performing a Corporal Work of Mercy: to bury the dead.
Our parish cemeteries are a visible reminder that death leads us to new and everlasting life. Our cemeteries are sacred places where families have come and will continue to come for generations to pray, reflect and remember. Through the use of statuary, landscaping, and Christian symbolism throughout our cemeteries we strive to create a prayerful environment: your family’s place in a sacred space.
